Strange Things

Before you ask, no, this post isn’t about the Netflix show “Stranger Things.” I haven’t seen the show, but I’ve heard good things about it… Well, I’ve heard strange things… (see what I did there? [-_^]).

Anyway, this post, like so many of my blog posts, is about one of my countless hikes and something strange I spotted.

There’s an out-of-the-way trail tucked behind a cute little church in the town of Addison, Maine. It’s called the Ingersoll Point Preserve (I think I’ve mentioned it in a previous post, but I’m not sure…). It’s a network of three trails (and one short connector trail) that converge at a small rocky beach. It was on said beach that I spotted something strange…

Tell me that doesn’t look like a skull tucked among the rocks! I know it’s just a rock, but when I saw this, it gave me a little moment of “WTF!?”

Keep your eyes open, people. You never know what you might miss if you don’t pay attention.

Until next time…

New Trail

Every once in a while I start to get a little bored hiking the same circuit of trails over and over.  So, when I stumble upon a new trail, I’m eager to check it out.

I recently located another trail close by one I frequent.  How I never knew about this trail before is kind of sad.  I didn’t drive far enough down the particular road.  Sort of an “around the next bend” kind of situation.

Anyway, the trail system is called the Boot Head Preserve and it’s a modest two mile loop but the ocean vistas are awesome.

This was the first vista I came to when I took the right path of the loop.

Circling around the loop, I came upon this staircase…

…which brought me to another awesome vista.

I’ll definitely be visiting this preserve again in the future.

Until next time…

Water Drop

I don’t claim to be an expert, but aren’t you supposed to be using a bottle for that, Link?

Catching water with your hands seems kind of inefficient.

Until next time…

Eagle!

Though it’s becoming less rare for me to catch a glimpse of a bald eagle in the wild while I’m out hiking, I’m still awed each time I see one.

Recently, I went hiking/snowshoeing at the Petit Manan Wildlife Refuge in Steuben, Maine. The trail I was on, the Birch Point Trail, has some sad memories attached to it but I won’t get into that. At the point on the trail that comes out to the bay, there’s a small island where eagles are known to nest.

While I was relieving myself of my pack and getting ready to enjoy my lunch, I heard the call of an eagle and decided to see if I could spot him or her. The tide was in at the time so I couldn’t venture out onto the rocks, but I did manage to spot the eagle in its nest out on the island.

I managed to get several shots though I only wish the camera I use while hiking zoomed in further and took better quality photographs when zoomed in.

Anyway, here’s one of the shots I got of the eagle…

Stretching Squirrel

A while ago I went hiking at the nearby state park and I happened to see the most random thing…

There was this squirrel chattering in a tree not too far from the trail I was on.  That’s not random but what it did, was…  And it was hilarious!

It hung from the side of the tree by its hind feet (paws?), stretched out, and waived its arms around in the air like it was swimming!  I wish I’d caught it on video but I only managed to snap a photo before it stopped and scampered off.

Stretching Squirrel

Keep an eye out for wildlife when you’re out in nature folks, sometimes they do some funny stuff!

Until next time…
