Memorial Day

Contrary to what many think, today isn’t about hitting special sales at your favorite stores, having cookouts, or getting an extra day off from school or work.

Today is about remembering the men and women who have served or are serving our country and especially those who died in the course of protecting us and our freedom.

It’s ok to partake in a sale, a cookout, and to enjoy that extra day off, but I’d challenge you to, at some point during that merry making, take just a moment to stop and think about our acting military, our veterans, and all the fallen heroes, both sung and unsung.  Stop and take a moment to appreciate what these people have done, the sacrifices some have made, and what those on active duty are still doing today while you‘re having fun at that sale or at that cookout.  After all, those sales, those cookouts, and those days off probably wouldn’t be happening without them.

Thank you to all the men and women who have served, are serving, or have made the ultimate sacrifice in order to ensure that we, and our country remains free.

Until next time…

Season’s Greetings

Tis that time of year again.  The snow is falling, the festivities are gearing up if not in full swing already, and the Christmas carols are heard almost everywhere.

Here’s to wishing everyone a happy and safe holiday season whether you celebrate Christmas or not, it’s still a special time of year.

Thanks Lousy Laptop Modem

My apologies for the lack of a blog post last Monday, folks.  Having a dial-up internet connection, I’m subject to the whims of not only my phone line, but also my laptop and it’s modem.  Said modem suddenly decided it didn’t want to recognize my phone line anymore so I was without internet access for almost two weeks.

But, I snagged a replacement modem so I should be ok now.  Keep your fingers crossed everyone.  Hopefully now I can get back into the swing of Monday posts.  That is, if I survive my dentist appointment this week.  [>_<]

Wish me luck.

Until next time…

Fall Foliage Fail….Again…

I hope everyone had a safe and fun Halloween/Samhain as well as a lovely Dia De Los Muertos last week!

The past few years have been horrible where fall foliage is concerned here in my little corner of Maine.  Either the leaves turn and are bright for a day then fall immediately, the wind rips the leaves from the trees before they have a chance to turn, or the leaves turn drab muted colors.

So, needless to say, my search for the perfect fall foliage shot has come up empty this year.  I was lucky to find a few decent trees while on a hike last year, but so far, this year, nothing.  I’m still hoping I’ll come across a tree with vibrantly colored leaves on my travels, but I‘m not holding my breath.

To those of you out there who have nice fall foliage where you live, enjoy it.  To those of you out there who are staring at drab leaves, or no leaves at all…I know your pain.

Until next time…

Mosquitoes SUCK!

This past weekend, Saturday in fact, the weather decided to play nice and I was able to hiking for the first time in almost a month.  I was so completely stoked to get out into the fresh air and into the wilderness that I made a rookie mistake.  I forgot to apply bug spray.  I was smart enough to apply sunscreen before I left my house, but the bug spray escaped me.  Thanks to that little brain fart, I ended up getting eaten alive by mosquitoes.  I loathe those things.

So, as you can see, there’s no new photograph this week.  I blame the mosquitoes.  They were out so thick that I couldn’t even stop for a second to take a picture of the trail in front of me without being bitten ten or fifteen times.

I’ll make it up to you, folks, by posting two or three pictures next Monday.  Deal?  Deal.

Until next time…
