Hiatus

In light of recent events I endured online this month, I’ve decided to take a complete hiatus from the internet.  This means that there will be no new blog posts for the foreseeable future.  I will be back sometime, I assure you, but as to when, I can’t say.

My apologies to those of you who actually look forward to my blog posts, but I just need to take some time, unplug, and mend from the needless turmoil I’ve encountered online.

Until next time…

Farewell 2017

I’m sure most of my readers will actually be reading this on Tuesday instead of Monday this week as Monday is Christmas day, but that’s ok!  Better late than never!

To that end, Merry Christmas everyone!  And Happy Holidays to those of you who don’t celebrate Christmas!

Here’s a shot I took earlier in the year (when we actually had snow) to get everyone in the winter mood.  Funny thing about this shot, the sky was only overcast when I set out on the hike but on the way back it was almost a blizzard.  I couldn’t see more than ten feet in front of me at times.  That’s Maine for you.  Our saying about the weather is so true:  “If you don’t like the weather in Maine…Wait five minutes.”

Well, this marks my last post of 2017.  I hope everyone enjoyed my random musings and photos this year.  I’ll be back with a new post next Monday where it’s January 1st, then I’ll continue with my “every-other-week” posting schedule.

I hope everyone has a happy and safe New Year (and if you plan to ring in the new year at a party with alcohol, please drink responsibly and designate a driver)!

Take care, folks!

Until next time…

Once More The Veil Thins

This is probably my favorite time of year. The crisp cool air of fall, the changing leaves, and Samhain (what commercially minded folks call, “Halloween”). Though I don’t dress up or go out, I still enjoy looking through catalogues at all the fun costumes (while wishing I had somewhere to go in order to wear one of them… and someone to go out with… [-_-]).

If you plan on heading out to a party tonight or tomorrow to celebrate, be safe. If there’s drink involved, be sure not to exceed your limit and/or designate a driver.

If you’re taking your little ones out for trick-or-treating (or if you plan on trick-or-treating yourself… you‘re never to old in my book!), again, be safe!

Until next time…

December Pick-Me-Up

With the days getting colder as we travel further into winter, I figured it’d be nice to post a shot of something bright and lively. An image to help folks look forward to spring. It may seem like a long way off right now, especially in areas that already have several feet of snow, but we’ll get there eventually. We always do.

Pink Flower Close-Up

Oh, and since next Monday falls on the 26th, and is the last Monday of 2016 (already!?) I’d like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Yule, Happy/Merry *insert holiday here*! Whatever holiday you celebrate, I hope it’s joyous, healthy, and safe!

Until next time…

Happy Halloween

It’s that time of the year again when the final harvest is ending and the veil between the living and the dead is at its thinnest.

Fall is definitely my favorite time of year but even though I tell folks that Halloween is my favorite “holiday” I actually really dislike how commercialized it’s become.  Just like every holiday that used to have real meaning in days past: Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, even Valentine’s Day.  They’ve all become cheapened by the commercial industry.

I would encourage folks to take a moment out of your day today, a moment out of your gathering or trick-or-treating this evening and reflect on what Halloween (or Samhain as it’s truly called) really means.  A time to remember and even converse with our ancestors and loved ones who have gone before us.  A time to celebrated the cycle of reincarnation.  I’m not advocating that people shouldn’t enjoy the Halloween they’ve come to know today, the Halloween they’ve grown up with, but I would encourage people to expand their knowledge and research Samhain.  And not to stop with just Samhain but research the true history of all “holidays.”

Enjoy your holiday everyone; those of you that celebrate the commercialized Halloween and those that celebrate the traditional Samhain that the Halloween of today was born of.  And, as always, if you intend to partake in any drinking tonight, please, please, be responsible and be safe.  Designate a driver, be aware of those around your, and be aware of your own limits.

Until next time…
