April 1st

It’s that time again.  The day where people run amuck, playing jokes on one another while shouting “APRIL FOOLS!” and laughing maniacally.

I’ll spare you my humorous antics.  Partially because I think April Fools is stupid, and partially because I suck at playing jokes on people.  So, you get a break!

I will, however, share something with you fine folks.  I recently got a new camera.  A Sony DSC-HX20V.  When that box arrived with the camera and the other accessories I ordered, I was like an antsy kid at the crack of dawn on Christmas morning!  I was expecting something a hair better than my faithful DSC-HX9V (which I passed on to my mother), but I was pleasantly surprised to find this little camera packed with cool features and a decent 18 mega pixels.

One of the awesome features in this camera is the painting setting.  This setting makes the picture you take look like it’s a…well…painting (obviously).

Example….

Quoddy Photo Painting

Now, I know this can be easily done in Photoshop, but it’s kind of cool to be able to apply the setting right in the field.

Until next time…

Unusual Objects Made Into Cameras

I subscribe to only two magazines, and both are about photography…Obviously.  Recently I was perusing the website for one of the magazines I subscribe to, Popular Photography, and I came across an interesting article.

It was about unusual and unlikely objects that people have turned into cameras.  Things like a skull, a turtle shell, even an entire room!  It’s quite fascinating.  Check it out here.

This got me thinking…if I were to build my own camera, what would I use to make it?

What about you?  What unlikely object would you make into a camera?

Until next time…

Instagram Camera In The Works?

I‘ve never used photography sharing sites like Flickr and Instagram, but I know of several people that do and swear by them.

Recently, I came across an article about an “Instagram Camera” that’s in the concept stage.  It actually sounds pretty interesting.  Even though I don’t currently use Instagram, I think this camera would be a really cool addition to the world of Photography.

Check it out here.

I figured I‘d spread the word for those of you that may be interested!

Until next time!

Favorite Camera Brand and Model?

I’ve asked, and have been asked, this question a few times.  Normally I’m not a “brand person.”  I don’t stick with something just because of the name on the package.  I research extensively and make my decision based on my needs at the time.

That being said, I have been known to lean toward Sony cameras.  I started out in the digital world with a Minolta digital camera years ago and as many know, Minolta was bought by Sony.  So the switch from Minolta to Sony was pretty seamless.  I liked the trusty Minolta I had, then my father made a trade with me.  He bought a Sony A100 and traded it to me for my old Minolta which he was more familiar with.  Since then, each camera I bought happened to be in the Sony family.

Now, like I said, I’m not a “brand person.”  I’m not biased against other camera brands (except maybe Fuji but that’s because I’ve handled a few and dislike the way they function and the quality of images they produce, plus that‘s the brand my father uses and we always had this little “who has the better camera“ competition going on).  Some people swear by one brand while, of course, others swear by another.  I say, if it works for you, stellar.

I’m actually in the market for a new camera again (my much loved Sony HX1 is getting on in years so I think I should give him a break!) and I’m interested in trying a new brand.

What would you recommend?  Do you have a favorite camera brand and model?  If so, what is it and why do you like it so much?

Until next time…
