Autumn is Awesome

I think I may have mentioned this before but October is my favorite month.  For three main reasons.  One, it’s the month of my birth (yay!).  Two, Samhain, my favorite holiday is in October (or Halloween for the non-pagan folks who buy into the commercialized holidays).  And three, it’s autumn.

Autumn is by far my favorite season.  I just wish it was the longest season instead of the shortest.  The crisp air, the weather that’s not too hot nor too cold, the brightly colored foliage….

Each autumn I try my best to get at least one or two really good foliage pictures.  It may be a single brightly colored tree here, or a group there, but from the first day of autumn, the hunt for the best foliage picture of the year is on.

This year, like previous years, wasn’t that great here in Maine where the foliage was concerned.  The trees turned early (those that turned at all, that is), went by pretty fast, or the wind took the leaves off the trees before they had a chance to turn.

That being said, I did manage to snap a few decent pictures when I went hiking a while ago at Screw Auger Falls (funny name, I know) and Moose Cave.

Special Day…Win!

Last week I mentioned a special day for myself.  No, it wasn’t a spa day, though that would be awesome (I’ve never done that before).  But, if you guessed birthday, you’re right on the money (but don‘t ask my age, a lady never reveals her age!).

I spent my special day shopping with my mother.  It was a long day, but one full of fun, awesome deals (gotta love saving money on things!), and laughter.  YAY!

On the way home, I looked in the rear view mirror and saw a spectacular sunset.  Well, I couldn’t pass that up so I pulled over onto the side of the road, got out, and took a picture.  I liked the shot so much, I figured I’d share with my readers!  Enjoy!

Special Day

This week brings a special day for me.  Some of my readers may know what it is.  To those that don’t know…well…it will remain a secret!  Mwa ha ha ha!

But seriously, I intend to have a good day when it arrives, be it a day full of fun or rest, or a little of both!

To hold you folks over until next week, here’s a random photo for your enjoyment.  So…enjoy!

September Sunrise

I’ve seen a lot of sunsets in my life, we all have, so it was kind of nice to be able to watch (and photograph) a sunrise.  It’s probably the only real upside (for me, at least) to waking up early.

Now, I know it’s now October (yay, my favorite month!) and the title of this post is “September Sunrise” but fear not, I haven’t lost my mind, it’s not a mistake.  The photo was taken in September, hence the title. d_[^_^]

I like how the morning fog/mist made the scene kind of ethereal.

Enjoy the sunsets, folks, but be sure to watch a few sunrises!

Until next time…

Faerie Houses

Recently, on one of my hikes at Quoddy, I stumbled upon what’s known as “Faerie Houses.”

What are “faerie houses”? So glad you asked!

Faerie houses are typically little mounds of earth, either moss or mud covered, that look, in my opinion, kind of like Hobbit holes. People tend to make little stone walkways leading up to these mounds and some even go a step further by making doors and even awnings above. But some people build faerie houses from scratch using natural materials they find such as bark, stones, shells, etc. Some even go all out and build fancy two-story houses, complete with doors windows, and little gardens.

Some people view faerie houses as simple little nature projects, but others believe faerie houses attract spirits or “faeries”, and that by decorating and adorning them they become pleasing enough to faeries that it invites them to live there which will bring the faerie’s favor to the house‘s creator.

Whatever you choose to believe, you have to admit, faerie houses are pretty cute, even the most simple ones.

Keep an eye out when you‘re in the woods exploring. You never know when you might stumble across a faerie house!
