Fall Foliage… Almost A Win

I just realized that I went the entire month of October without posting a foliage picture.  I guess November is still technically “fall” but the foliage tends to peak in October around where I live.

Over the past few years the foliage has been a huge let down and my annual trip to Screw Auger Falls and the neighboring Mother Walker Falls (laugh it up) and Moose Cave here in Maine have just been a test of my resilience to cold wind.

This year, the foliage was a tad bit better, though not as vibrant as I’d have liked when I arrived at Screw Auger Falls then went on to Mother Walker Falls and Moose Cave.  We’ve been in the throes of a bit of a drought here in Maine this past summer and even now so I don’t know if that was a help to the fall colors or a hindrance.  I do know that the lack of pounding rain and the gale force winds that tend to accompany fall rains meant that fewer leaves were torn from the trees before they had a chance to change color which is what tends to happen.

So, fall foliage for 2016… Almost a win…

Internet Snafu And Foliage Fail

Apologies for the lack of a blog post last Monday, folks.  I had some issues with my internet service.  [>_<]

Anyway, I went hiking a few weeks ago looking for some late blooming foliage but it seems I waited too long.  I expected the more sheltered trails (trails through deeper woods instead of along a road or the coastline) to still be vibrant.  I’m sure some were, but just not the one I chose.  Just my luck.

I went back to one of my favorites, my old stand-by, Quoddy.  Instead of hiking along the coastal trail, I chose to go through the inland trail and loop back on the coastal trail.  I was disappointed because all the trees except the pines were bare.  Though, my shots still looked “autumn-y” because of the settings I used on my camera.

Enjoy…

Autumn is Awesome

I think I may have mentioned this before but October is my favorite month.  For three main reasons.  One, it’s the month of my birth (yay!).  Two, Samhain, my favorite holiday is in October (or Halloween for the non-pagan folks who buy into the commercialized holidays).  And three, it’s autumn.

Autumn is by far my favorite season.  I just wish it was the longest season instead of the shortest.  The crisp air, the weather that’s not too hot nor too cold, the brightly colored foliage….

Each autumn I try my best to get at least one or two really good foliage pictures.  It may be a single brightly colored tree here, or a group there, but from the first day of autumn, the hunt for the best foliage picture of the year is on.

This year, like previous years, wasn’t that great here in Maine where the foliage was concerned.  The trees turned early (those that turned at all, that is), went by pretty fast, or the wind took the leaves off the trees before they had a chance to turn.

That being said, I did manage to snap a few decent pictures when I went hiking a while ago at Screw Auger Falls (funny name, I know) and Moose Cave.

Yay, autumn colors!
