Christmas Time

With all the political correctness being thrown about when it comes to the holidays, especially Christmas, I feel I need to make a little stand here.

Why should I have to stop saying “Merry Christmas” or “Happy Yule” (since I celebrate Christmas for/with the family and Yule for/by myself) in favor of “Happy Holidays” just because someone that doesn’t celebrate Christmas or Yule may possibly take offense to said greetings?  It’s kind of ridiculous if you think about it.  You don’t see me getting all bent out of shape when someone says “Happy Hanukah” (did I spell that right?) or “Happy Kwanza.”  In fact, I’d rather that happen.  Instead of getting offended by my “Merry Christmas” to you, I’d rather have you respond joyfully with, “Happy/Merry *name of whatever particular holiday/festival you celebrate*”.

Doesn’t that make more sense than pushing the whole “politically correct” thing on something so simple and innocent as a holiday greeting (or decorations since it‘s spilling over into that area too)?  There are bigger things out there in the world that should concern us than how someone extends a holiday greeting.  I know some of you out there agree with me, and those that don’t, well, this is just my opinion so no harm no foul! d_[^_^]

No matter what holiday, religious rite, or festival you celebrate, I think we can all agree that this is a time of year for family, joy, caring, and love for your fellow human beings.  Right?  I know!

That being said, I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, a Happy Yule, and a Happy/Merry everything else (to those that don’t celebrate Christmas or Yule)!  And since I can’t send everyone a card, I’ll offer up the digital equivalent!

Warm Wishes and Bright Blessings to you.

Warm Wishes and Bright Blessings to you.

Tis the season to be kind to others, regardless of your (or their) differences, whatever they may be!

Until next time….

Thanks Lousy Laptop Modem

My apologies for the lack of a blog post last Monday, folks.  Having a dial-up internet connection, I’m subject to the whims of not only my phone line, but also my laptop and it’s modem.  Said modem suddenly decided it didn’t want to recognize my phone line anymore so I was without internet access for almost two weeks.

But, I snagged a replacement modem so I should be ok now.  Keep your fingers crossed everyone.  Hopefully now I can get back into the swing of Monday posts.  That is, if I survive my dentist appointment this week.  [>_<]

Wish me luck.

Until next time…

What’s Wrong With This Picture…?

This week’s post is going to be void of photography related things.  I can hear your sighs and laments of sorrow at this news.

But to lift everyone’s spirits some, I’ll share some happy news.  My brother and his fiancé got married this past weekend.  Congratulations you two!

The next day (yesterday to those of you paying attention), was my birthday.  I’m not going to tell you how old I turned.  Like a superhero protecting their secret identity, a lady never reveals her age (or her weight for that matter, so don’t even think about asking!) to the general population.  My family knows (at least, I should hope they know), and my Facebook friends know.  But don’t bother asking them.  I made them all sign confidentiality agreements upon the acceptance of their friend requests.  [-_^]  Just kidding.

So, because it was my birthday yesterday, I didn’t sit down and put much thought into a photography-type post for you folks.  Be happy you’re getting this much today!

I’ll be sure to post something photography related next week.

Deal?  Deal!

And points to you if you read the title of this post, read the post, then looked back at the title and giggled even a little bit.  [-_^]

Until next time…

First Day Of October!

I have to say that October is probably my favorite month of the year.  Why?  I’m so glad you asked!

First, October is the heart of fall.  And fall is my favorite season.  The leaves turn, the air is crisp, and the weather is cool.  It’s the perfect time of year in my opinion.

Second, Halloween.  My favorite holiday.  I’m not talking the costumes and candy Halloween that corporations created to gain profits, but the pagan holiday at the root of it all.  Samhain.  If you don’t know what that is, I invite you to go on a little journey and research it.  Learning is fun!

And third, my birthday.  That’s right.  October holds the anniversary of the day I was born.  I’ll be 29 this year.  Wow.  I’m getting old!  [-_^]

Anyway, this week I intend to seek out some vibrantly colored fall leaves to photograph.  Over the past few years, the leaves around here have either fallen before they got a chance to change, or the colors weren’t very bright.  I’ll let you know how my search turns out, next week.

Here’s to hoping this year will have brighter fall foliage!

Until next time…

Ten Places I Want To See…

Last week I posted a link to an article from Buzzfeed.com about ten beautiful places in the world.  I told everyone that I’d make a list of ten places I’d like to see.

Well, here it is.

I’ll start with a few countries I’d like to visit at some point in my life.

1. Japan

I’ve always had a soft spot for the Japanese culture.  Their language, architecture, and art have always intrigued me.  I’d love to spend some time photographing the country.

2. Ireland

The Emerald Isle.  What could be better than rolling green hills, beautiful coastline, and castles?!

3. Italy

You can’t call yourself an artist and not want to visit Italy.  You just can’t!  Italy is so rich in art and culture that it’s basically a requirement when planning an overseas trip.

4. India

Forget “The Big Bang Theory” and Dr. Raj Koothrapali for a second.  Let’s be serious.  Like Italy, India is lush with beautiful sights.  Hindu and Buddhist temples, majestic landscapes, etc.

5. Greece

Two words…Greek Mythology.  Two more words…The Parthenon.  I think I’ve made my point.

Now that I’ve listed some countries, here are a few specific spots I’d like to visit.

6. USA: All the National Parks

I’ve been to Acadia National Park in Maine but that doesn’t mean I’ll remove it from the list!  Like every location, you can visit it several times, at different times of day, and in different seasons, and come away with new and unique images each time.

7. Egypt: The Great Pyramids

Yes, this may be considered a cliché travel destination, but the pyramids are still, and always will be, a wonder.  Just thinking about seeing the great pyramids with my own eyes makes me giddy!

8. China: The Great Wall of China

Again, cliché.  And again, just thinking about see it first hand makes me happy!

9. England: Stonehenge

Yet another cliché locale, but come on, who doesn’t like big mysterious rock formations!

10. A Tie between Peru: Machu Picchu & Mexico: The Mayan Ruins

Let’s face it, we’ve all wanted to be Indiana Jones or Lara Croft at some point in our lives.  Exploring ancient ruins and hidden tombs to uncover secrets that could explain mankind’s existence and save the world!  Or, more plausibly, we just think archeology is cool.  Either way, there’s something alluring about ancient ruins.  To see where and how people who came before us lived their lives.  It‘s fascinating if you stop to think about it.

What about you, folks?  Where would you like to go?  What places would you like to see?

Until next time…
