First Shot of 2014

Welcome to the new year, everyone!  I hope everyone’s new year’s celebrations went well and that all your resolutions are still going strong.  I would hope people haven’t faltered this soon into the new year!

As I do each year, I’m using today’s post to share with all of you, the first image I shot this year.  Here’s another image of the ice adorning the trees around where I live.

Happy New Year!

Until next time…

Winter Wonderland

Hello again, folks.  I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas, Yule, Hanukah, etc. last week.

Speaking of last week, my state got hammered with a rather intense ice storm.  Not as intense as the ice storm that hit us in 1998 (remember that one, Mainers?), but intense none the less.  Everything was covered in a layer of ice, and now, a week later, everything is still coated in ice, but with an added blanket of snow.  The ice was so thick and heavy, it bent many trees completely over.  Granted, it is pretty when the sun shines, but I’m sure the trees don’t appreciate it.

Have a safe and happy New Years, everyone.  And to all my Maine readers (and other New Englanders that read my blog), travel safely on those icy roads!

Until next time…

Fall Foliage Fail….Again…

I hope everyone had a safe and fun Halloween/Samhain as well as a lovely Dia De Los Muertos last week!

The past few years have been horrible where fall foliage is concerned here in my little corner of Maine.  Either the leaves turn and are bright for a day then fall immediately, the wind rips the leaves from the trees before they have a chance to turn, or the leaves turn drab muted colors.

So, needless to say, my search for the perfect fall foliage shot has come up empty this year.  I was lucky to find a few decent trees while on a hike last year, but so far, this year, nothing.  I’m still hoping I’ll come across a tree with vibrantly colored leaves on my travels, but I‘m not holding my breath.

To those of you out there who have nice fall foliage where you live, enjoy it.  To those of you out there who are staring at drab leaves, or no leaves at all…I know your pain.

Until next time…

Sunrise Through The Fog

I always stop for a moment to take a look outside when I get up in the morning to feed my cats.  Once, I’m sure loyal readers will remember, I was rewarded when I saw a deer saunter into my yard.  A while ago, while I was feeding my cats, I looked out the window to see a dense morning fog shrouding my house.  While my little furry friends ate, I watched as the sun began to rise through the fog.  It was a cool sight.  So what did I do?  What every photographer does when they see a cool sight.  I grabbed my camera, stepped outside, and took a few shots.

This is what I came away with.

Autumn Sunrise

Don’t let things like cloudy days and fog deter you from getting outside and photographing the world around you.  Make a hindrance into an opportunity.

I’d like to wish everyone a happy, safe, and fun Halloween/Samhain.  And to my Spanish friends/readers, on November 2nd, Happy Dia De Los Muertos!

Until next time…

What’s Today!?

Today is a special day!  We all have one.  Every year.  What is it? (Yes, this is the lamest riddle ever, I know)  It’s a birthday!  And yes, today is mine!

So, even though it’s my birthday, I’m going to give you folks a little gift (aww, how generous)!  What’s the gift (I’m not telling you my age so forget that)?  I’m posting of a new photo, of course!

Ok, that’s not the greatest of gifts, but it’s all I can manage so enjoy this image I shot on one of my recent visits to the beach.

Now, I’m off to celebrate!

Until next time…
