What’s In There?

Link knows well that being a hero means being not only brave, but curious.  Curiosity helps heroes find the clues they need (and hidden treasure chests!) to complete their quests.

Here we see Link’s curiosity at work, wondering what could possibly be down in a hole in a stump.  Hopefully it’s a treasure chest and not a monster.

What's in there?

Until next time…

Even Heroes Need A Break

Questing, battling monsters, rescuing princesses, and saving kingdoms… It’s hard work. It should come as no surprise that even heroes need a break now and then.

Link is notorious for sleeping for long periods of time. He was even considered “lazy” by the Great Deku Tree and the Kokiri. But once he’s refreshed from his nap, watch out!

This concludes this month’s blog posts. As I mentioned on the first, I won’t be posting next week (the 22nd) or the following week (the 29th). I’ll be back with a new post on Monday, September 5th.

Fourth of July, 2016

Let me begin this post with a side note…

Back on May 30, I announced that I’d be running a little giveaway for one signed 8X10 print of one of my photographs, open to all my blog followers.  All you had to do was send an email to me with the subject “8X10 Print Giveaway” and you’d be entered into the drawing that was to take place today.

Sadly, there was no need for a drawing.  I didn’t receive a single email entry.  Kind of makes me wonder why I have so many followers.  [-_-,]

Oh well.  Your loss.  Just think, you folks had the opportunity to win a signed 8X10 print (of your choice) from a photographer before she becomes famous!  But, the giveaway is over now so…time to move on…

Now for today’s blog post…

It’s that time of the year again.  Independence Day.  The cookouts, the family get-togethers, the fireworks…

We haven’t had much rain in my corner of Maine lately so things are a bit on the dry side.  That means people need to be extra careful of where and how they set of fireworks this year.  People should be careful setting off fireworks no matter where they are and under all conditions, not only to prevent fire in dry climates/areas, but also to avoid personal injury.  And please, never mix alcohol with fireworks.  If you plan to drink at a family function, cookout, or some other event where there will be fireworks, please drink responsibly.  That’s a good rule for any occasion, not just the fourth of July!

Anyway, I haven’t had the opportunity to capture any new fireworks images so I’ll just re-post the best I took from several years ago when my neighbors set off a few.

Wishing you a safe, happy, and fun Fourth!

Should I Be Concerned?!

Sometimes when I’m on a hike I come across something strange, something out-of-place, something that makes me concerned.

Again, on a hike at Quoddy Head State Park, I spotted something down on the beach that gave me pause (<– a little writer’s prose for you there).

Half a Canoe

What am I supposed to make of this? Should I be concerned? Where’s the other half of the canoe?! Was there someone in the canoe when the other half went missing? If so, where are they?!

Strange…

Until next time…

What In Hyrule…!?

By now my more frequent readers know well that I’m a nerd/geek/intellectual badass, call it what you will. I’m an avid reader, gamer, and collector of nerdy stuff like action figures. And, by now, my readers know that I like to take some figures along with me when I hike and insert them into scenes around me which I then photograph (as evidenced by my images of Martin McGnome and his family).

Well, I have a new character that I’ve added to my action figure arsenal. I’m sure some of you out there who are into video games will recognize him.

He’s the Hero of Hyrule. The Hero of Time. I’m talking, of course, about Link from the Legend of Zelda!

I recently took Link on a trip to my go-to hiking spot, Quoddy Head State Park. About a half a mile down the coastal trail (it feels much farther when you hike it though) is a spot I’ve talked about and photographed countless times called Green Point. The day I went, Green Point was covered in cool rock stacks, Cairns as they’re known in the hiking circle (it’s a cool circle, you should join it if you’re not already a member!).

While photographing some of the rock stacks on their own, I saw a super cool shot forming in my head. Then, while my hiking partner (my mother) went off to check something out a few yards away, I got to work setting up the shot with Link.

Voila! It looks like something straight out of a Legend of Zelda game! At least, it does to me!

What in Hyrule...?

You can almost hear what Link’s thinking (as he’s mute in the games, but if you‘re a gamer you already knew that) as he looks out over the landscape he needs to traverse on whatever quest was laid out before him…
“What in Hyrule…?” Sorta like an “Oh crap, I have to cross this!?”

See? Told ya I’m a nerd. [^_^]

Anyway, expect to see more from Link. He’s already making himself at home in my action figure arsenal.

Until next time…
