Young Buck

I’m no stranger to female deer in my front yard, but a while ago, I was shocked to see a young buck following a mother and her two female offspring into my yard. I don’t know if he was the offspring of the mother from last year or if he was following them because he fancied one of the girls but the mother didn’t seem very happy he was around. She kept trying to run him off. He retreated to the other side of my yard but stuck around. The little girls (they still had their spots at the time) didn’t seem bothered by him.

He’s so pretty.

I saw him only once more after this photo was taken. I wonder if he got together with one of the girls. Maybe she’ll come back to my yard in the spring with a baby of her own. [^_^]

Until next time…

Doe…A Deer…A Female Deer…

Every time I least expect it, I look out my kitchen window and see anywhere from one to four deer in my front yard. As far as I’ve been able to tell, there are three mother deer with five babies between them (well, they’re no longer babies as their spots are gone). I try to take as many pictures as I can when I notice them, but sadly (sadly for me, good for them) I see less of them during hunting season.

I noticed this doe because of one of my cats. She (my cat) was staring out the window and when I went to look, there was a deer in my yard. I’m not sure which family group this one belongs to or if she was just a loner that wandered into my yard. It would help if they wore name tags so I could identify them. [-_^]

It’s funny that I see more deer in my yard than I do when I’m out on a hiking trail.

Until next time…

Bangor Bunny

Apologies for this week’s post being a late, faithful readers.  I’ve been busy working on photos for a client.  But hey, it’s still Monday, right?  [-_^]

Anyway, those of you that follow my blog already know how excited I get to see wildlife while I’m out hiking or riding my bike.  It’s rare that I see things other than squirrels, chipmunks, birds, and the occasional snake or seal (on coastal trails), so when I come across a deer (see this post), I’m ecstatic.  But it’s even more rare that I spot a wild rabbit.

A while ago, I went for one of my last bike rides of the year in the Bangor City Forest and as I came around a curve in the trail, I saw this little guy (or gal) just hanging out, munching on clover.

Super cute!

Until next time…

Once More The Veil Thins

This is probably my favorite time of year. The crisp cool air of fall, the changing leaves, and Samhain (what commercially minded folks call, “Halloween”). Though I don’t dress up or go out, I still enjoy looking through catalogues at all the fun costumes (while wishing I had somewhere to go in order to wear one of them… and someone to go out with… [-_-]).

If you plan on heading out to a party tonight or tomorrow to celebrate, be safe. If there’s drink involved, be sure not to exceed your limit and/or designate a driver.

If you’re taking your little ones out for trick-or-treating (or if you plan on trick-or-treating yourself… you‘re never to old in my book!), again, be safe!

Until next time…

Having Some Gaming Fun

So last week (a few days ago, in fact) I leveled up!

To those that don’t speak nerd/geek lingo, that means it was my birthday. And for said birthday I finally snagged a copy of the new Legend of Zelda game, Breath of the Wild. It’s super awesome and I’ve already sacrificed countless hours of my life to it with no regrets!

In honor of my birthday gift to myself, here’s a picture of Link I took while out hiking a while ago…

Until next time…
