Fourth of July, 2016

Let me begin this post with a side note…

Back on May 30, I announced that I’d be running a little giveaway for one signed 8X10 print of one of my photographs, open to all my blog followers.  All you had to do was send an email to me with the subject “8X10 Print Giveaway” and you’d be entered into the drawing that was to take place today.

Sadly, there was no need for a drawing.  I didn’t receive a single email entry.  Kind of makes me wonder why I have so many followers.  [-_-,]

Oh well.  Your loss.  Just think, you folks had the opportunity to win a signed 8X10 print (of your choice) from a photographer before she becomes famous!  But, the giveaway is over now so…time to move on…

Now for today’s blog post…

It’s that time of the year again.  Independence Day.  The cookouts, the family get-togethers, the fireworks…

We haven’t had much rain in my corner of Maine lately so things are a bit on the dry side.  That means people need to be extra careful of where and how they set of fireworks this year.  People should be careful setting off fireworks no matter where they are and under all conditions, not only to prevent fire in dry climates/areas, but also to avoid personal injury.  And please, never mix alcohol with fireworks.  If you plan to drink at a family function, cookout, or some other event where there will be fireworks, please drink responsibly.  That’s a good rule for any occasion, not just the fourth of July!

Anyway, I haven’t had the opportunity to capture any new fireworks images so I’ll just re-post the best I took from several years ago when my neighbors set off a few.

Wishing you a safe, happy, and fun Fourth!

Until next time…

License Plate Fun…Round 2

Last week I shared a funny Transformers related memory of mine with all of you.  Well, this week I just have to keep the Transformers theme going.

I mentioned in a post last year that I like looking for funny vanity plates when I’m on the road or walking through a parking lot while on my way to/from a store.  The last license plate I shared with you folks was Game of Thrones related (check that post out here).  Well, a few days ago, I went shopping with my mother and while we were at a stop light, my mother noticed the license plate of the vehicle in front of us and brought it to my attention.  I couldn’t help but laugh and scramble for my camera.

This is what we saw…

Forgive the quality of the image.  I took this through a less than pristine windshield while in a moving car (I was the passenger so don’t worry).

Hilarious!  Again, stay nerdy, folks!

Until next time…

Random Funny Memories

I don’t have a new photo to share with you folks this week but I do have a little story. One I find funny.

Have you ever been randomly reminded of something funny that you saw/heard/experienced days, weeks, or even years ago? That happened to me just this past weekend.

I was sitting at home Saturday morning watching the new Transformers series, “Robots in Disguise.” Yes, I still watch Saturday morning cartoons. This should come as no surprise to my more regular readers. You should know well by now that I’m a nerd/geek/child-at-heart.

Anyway, I’m watching Transformers and they mentioned Bumblebee (as they do in every episode) and it got me thinking of something hilarious that happened a few years ago.

I was in the parking lot of a Walmart on my way into the store when I heard a little boy start yelling excitedly. I looked over my shoulder to see a young couple not much older than myself and the little boy who was pointing a few rows over.

The conversation went like this:

Boy: (pointing and tugging on his father‘s hand) “Dad! It’s Bumblebee!”
Father: (following the child’s gaze and laughing) “Dude, that’s not Bumblebee.”
Boy: (voice rising in excitement) “Yes it is! It’s Bumblebee! Let’s go see him!”
Father: (still laughing and trying to drag the child toward the store) “Dude, I told you it’s not…”
Boy: “IT’S BUMBLEBEE!!! HE’S RIGHT THERE!!!”

While chuckling to myself, I looked in the direction the little boy was pointing and couldn’t help but laugh out loud. Yes. I had a literal “lol” moment. Parked a few rows away was a yellow Camero with black stripes, just like Bumblebee’s car mode in the Transformers movies.

Hilarious! That kid was so adamant that car was really Bumblebee! Future geek in the making!

Anyway, stay nerdy, folks!

Until next time…

Check This…

I’m taking a break from my regularly scheduled photography blog post this week to bring you a special opportunity…

Calling all nerd girls! Calling all fans of Link from the Legend of Zelda! I have this super awesome, officially licensed Nintendo “Legend of Zelda” Link cosplay dress and I need to sell it.

The dress is marked a 3X but it either runs small or is intended for juniors, not women. It fits more like a women’s L or a small 1X.

Link Cosplay Dress

As you can see, it’s modeled after Link’s costume in “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time” and even has the super awesome Hylian shield on the back! Just add some white tights/leggings and brown boots and BAM! Instant Link cosplay!

I’m asking $50 for it, but to sweeten the deal, I’ll include Link’s hat AND free shipping! I accept paypal only and can only ship to points within the United States.

Ladies, interested for yourself? Guys, interested for your girlfriend? Interested for that special nerd girl in your life? Make her day and send me a message!

Until next time…

When It Rains, It Pours…

Everyone’s heard that popular phrase describing unfortunate circumstances that seem to pile up one after another. Well, pile up they have.

I think I mentioned in a post a long time ago (I’m not sure when) that I have horrid luck when it comes to technology. That bad luck came around to bite me yet again. Shortly after last Monday’s post, the laptop I’d been using decided it wanted to give me a hard time. The laptop boots up normally, but all the screen shows is a mash of colored lines, effectively disabling me from accessing anything. Yeah. Such is my luck.

But, it gets worse. I did a little research in a few stores and even asked a few employees if I would still be able to connect to the internet via dial-up (that’s how old-school my town is, we only have dial-up) with the new laptop I was considering. I was assured that I could, so I bought the laptop. Strike number two. It didn’t work. That’s twice now that I was mislead by employees at a popular electronics store that shall remain nameless (let’s just say it wasn’t the “greatest purchase“). So, I won’t be shopping at that chain ever again.

I returned the useless laptop that turns out was only capable of a wifi connection (which isn’t available in my town or the surrounding area). So, my internet access will be spotty at best. I’m going to try to keep to my weekly blog postings but if I miss a week or two (and if posts are a bit lacking in new photographs like this post), you’ll know why.

Anyway, I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. Mine wasn’t so festive, but I covered the reason for that in last week’s post. And I also hope everyone didn’t fall into the Black Friday trap this year.

The Christmas season is quickly approaching with tomorrow being December 1st. I would urge everyone to not get swept up in the whole materialistic bull that stores have made the holiday into. It’s not about what new gadgets you get or who gives the best and most expensive gifts, it’s about being with family and friends, appreciating each other, and doing kind things for others instead of thinking about yourself. Giving gifts is all well and good, but try something different. Instead of buying something, make something. Instead of sending a generic card to a loved one, call them. Instead of texting, call. You get the idea.

Until next time…
