Faerie Cabin #2

Again, on another hike at Quoddy Head State Park, I stumbled across something super cute.

Along the trail popular for little faerie houses, my hiking partner pointed out a faerie house a few feet into the trees. It was simple in construction, using an existing mound of earth with a hole, but the overall look of it was pretty genius.

Faerie House

As I was heading back to the parking lot from my hike, along that same trail, I saw a family of four up ahead of me. The mother was taking a picture of the two children, a boy and a little girl, sitting on a log. As I got closer, the boy spotted me and asked “Do you like our faerie house?” I looked between where the kids were sitting, expecting a line of stones leading to a hole in the ground or some very simple structure (they were pretty young kids after all), but my expectations were exceeded.

The little house, though utilizing a hole in a log, was actually quite elaborate compared to most I see. It even had a stick chimney! You can tell some thought went into its construction.

Now, I’m not sure if mom and dad had a hand in building the house (I’m pretty sure they did), but if it was just the work of the kids, I’m guessing that at least one of them will go into engineering later in life.

It was pretty awesome!

Again, keep an eye out for the Faerie Folk!

Until next time…

Faerie Land!

Every once in a while, when I’m on a hike or just out and about somewhere, I come across a spot or scene that has a bit of an otherworldly or mystical feel to it.  For me, being in the forest is a spiritual experience on its own, but sometimes there’s just a little extra…something.

For example, recently I was out hiking the trails of Roque Bluffs near where I live.  The wild apple trees along the trail were in full bloom and there were so many bees enjoying the blossoms that their buzzing was all you could here.  And they all sounded in sync, like it was just one massive bee in each tree I approached.

The blossoms were pretty enough but what added to the beauty and made the scene a bit more mystical were all the fallen petals strewn along the trail.  It looked like something out of a fantasy movie like I was walking into a land of faeries (yes, I believe in faeries, don’t judge me!).

Fun With Action Figures…Round 2

Those of you that read my blog on a regular basis (thank you for that, by the way! d_[^_^]) have undoubtedly seen a few photos of mine with toys as the subject. Ninjas, action figures, dragons, faeries….

Why do I do this? Well, the answer is simple.

Because it’s fun!

These photos can range from completely planned out/staged to utterly random. Usually, they take place while I’m out hiking or walking on the beach.

Recently, I was walking on the beach (yes, I still walk on the beach in winter…if the weather’s nice), and I had my collection of faeries with me. As I was walking along, I happened to look down at just the right moment and noticed a G.I. Joe type army figure in desert style gear. I decided to take the little fella home and as I was heading back toward my car, the sun was setting behind me and an idea struck.

I thought, it’d be interesting to do a shot or two of this army dude walking off into the sunset with the beach sand as a “desert”. So, I tried it, even making a little line of footprints behind him…

Soldier in the Desert

Then, I decided to add one of my faeries to the mix. My thought for this wasn’t a soldier walking along with a faerie, but a soldier walking along with a little girl dressed as a faerie. The message in that one? Well, I’ll let you glean whatever you’d like from it (but please share your thoughts, I’d love to hear…er…read them!).

These photographs won’t be winning any awards, I know, but they’re still cute (in my opinion at least) and fun to make.

Until next time…

Dancing Faerie

A few weeks ago (actually, back in September), I made a post about Faerie houses and showed everyone a picture of one such house I found during one of my many hikes at Quoddy State Park.

Well, this week I’m going a step further.

Behold! A dancing Faerie! [^_^]

Dancing Faerie

If you ever happen upon a Faerie house, one, don’t disturb it, and two, hang around a while, you might catch sight of a Faerie nearby! [-_^]

Until next time…
