Calendar Project?

The past few years, I’ve been flirting with the idea of making and selling a calendar.  Though, I’ve been having some trouble with this project.  One, I’m not sure how well a calendar of my photography would be received by consumers, and two, I’m having a tough time selecting twelve photographs to go into said calendar.

Obviously, this late in the year, should I put this idea into action, there won’t be a calendar for 2014.  But, if people are interested, I would probably shoot for a 2015 calendar.

Some feedback from my readers on this idea of mine would be welcome and greatly appreciated.  Would any of you, dear readers, be interested in an Audrey May Photography calendar?  If so, what are some images you would like to see in the calendar?  Feel free to leave comments here on my site, on my Facebook page, or send them to me in an email.  I’m interested to hear opinions on this idea.

Until next time…

Cat In The Office…Round 2…

Last year I mentioned in a post that one of my other interests outside of photography is writing.  I recently began planning out a new writing project, but last week my biggest error was sitting down in the evening to work on said project.  Evening is when my youngest cat craves my attention.  My undivided attention.  And, like all of my cats, she tends to get her way.

I had the tools for my project laid out on my desk ready to go and just as I sat down and started to work, this is what happened…

Craving Attention

Now, I love my little grey ninja monkey as I love all my cats, and I really don’t have the heart to close her out of the room when I want to work, but I think I just might have to start.  Either that or I’ll have to force myself to start working during the day when she’s off in another part of the house playing or napping with the other cats.  It just sucks for me that the creative flow tends to hit me when the sun goes down, just when she wants my attention the most.  Oh well.  I’m sure everything will sort itself out sooner or later.

Anyway, this Thursday is Thanksgiving so I’d like to wish everyone out there a happy, safe, and healthy Thanksgiving.  Don’t eat too much!!  Oh, and happy Hanukkah too!

Until next time…

Stocking Up For Winter

It always interests me how nature works and how animals know better than we do the changing of the seasons.

Not long ago I noticed two of my cats sitting in my kitchen window staring intently at something.  I took a glance at the tree in my front yard and watched a little squirrel scurry up the tree then come back down a minute or so later with a pine cone in its mouth.  It ran over to a spot on the lawn and buried the pine cone.  Then, it ran back up the tree for another.  It repeated this process several times and entertained my cats for a good ten minutes.  Looks like winter is on its way and this little ball of fur is stocking up.

Stocking Up For Winter

Forgive the blurriness in this image, I took it through my kitchen window which could stand to be cleaned a little more often than it is.

Until next time…

Patience Is A Virtue

In this world of instant gratification with all the technology out there to keep us connected to…well…everything, it’s easy to forget patience.  It’s always a good idea to slow down once in a while, and who knows slow better than snails (and the post office, but that‘s beside the point)?

Snail

I came across this little guy (or gal, I can’t tell and didn’t ask) on a recent trip to the beach.  I sat and watched this little snail for the longest time.  I watched it climb over what we would consider tiny ripples in the sand but what he must see as huge sand dunes.  It made me think about patience and perseverance.  So often in this day and age, if a web page doesn’t load in under five seconds, if the line in the supermarket doesn’t move quickly enough, and if the person on the road ahead isn’t traveling at or even a little over the speed limit, most of us get annoyed.  But it definitely pays to be patient.  Good things come to those who wait.

Stay patient folks.  You’ll be happier and healthier in the long run.

Until next time…

Fall Foliage Fail….Again…

I hope everyone had a safe and fun Halloween/Samhain as well as a lovely Dia De Los Muertos last week!

The past few years have been horrible where fall foliage is concerned here in my little corner of Maine.  Either the leaves turn and are bright for a day then fall immediately, the wind rips the leaves from the trees before they have a chance to turn, or the leaves turn drab muted colors.

So, needless to say, my search for the perfect fall foliage shot has come up empty this year.  I was lucky to find a few decent trees while on a hike last year, but so far, this year, nothing.  I’m still hoping I’ll come across a tree with vibrantly colored leaves on my travels, but I‘m not holding my breath.

To those of you out there who have nice fall foliage where you live, enjoy it.  To those of you out there who are staring at drab leaves, or no leaves at all…I know your pain.

Until next time…
